Location Guide

We are so spoilt for choice in Karratha and its surrounds. However, not many people are aware of all the amazing locations. Each is unique and beautiful in its only special way.

I have carefully selected the following locations because they work perfectly with my photographic style.

This guide has been put together to help you choose the perfect location for your photographic experience, whether you are after those gorgeous golden light images, the red dirt tracks, the rolling hills or the iconic low tide reflection shots.

The Pilbara landscape is seasonal and is forever changing. A small amount of rain can dramatically transform a location from a golden field into a lush green haven.

Hearson’s Cove

One of the most popular locations in the Karratha/Dampier region is Hearson’s Cove. This unique location never fails to deliver.

The tides play a major role.
Both low tide and high tide can be absolutely stunning settings, resulting in very different images.
A session at Hearson’s Cove begins in the bush, followed by the red rocks and finishes on the beach at sunset.

Nickol Track

This locations simply stunning.
The golden light that shines through the trees results in exquisite images and the rich red dirt is very Pilbara.

Located between Bayview Road and the salt flats are two sets of trees with dirt red tracks curving through.
A session at one of these sets of trees includes backlit golden images in the grasses, dirt track and sunset images. We can keep to the track or wander towards the salt flats to capture more variety in our images.
During the summer months this area is captivating and golden.
In Autumn, after the summer rains, it becomes a lush green landscape.

Bulgarra (and Back Beach)

This location is a hidden gem.

It’s forever evolving and changing.

Beautiful large gum trees filter the golden light as it hits the red hills. A wide dirt road perfectly expresses life in the Pilbara.
After summer rains this area becomes fresh and green.
Wild flowers often bloom in this area during the winter months. We can also take a short drive to Back Beach for sunset photos.

Visitor’s Centre

This beautiful location is simply lovely and is often overlooked. At the moment it isn’t used by any other photographers in town. What you see with your eye, is not what my camera captures.

The range of natural colours are striking.
We are able to capture golden grasses, trees and red hill backdrops at the base of the Visitor’s Centre lookout.
As the sun begins to set we can drive to the top of the lookout and capture photos overlooking both the hills and the city.

Dampier

Dampier is full of special locations to capture moments in a range of settings.

Because Dampier is rather small, we can stop at serval spots during our session.
Jurat Reserve is a hidden park with gorgeous stone stairs, beautiful big trees and is the perfect location to begin our shoot. As the sun sets over the water we can head to one of many beaches from The Palms, to Shark Cage, or even down to the beach over looking Parker Point and the large ore ships.

Cossack

The historical town of Cossack has many diverse locations for photographic sessions.

Located about 40 minutes from Karratha, a session at Cossack offers a few backdrop options.
We can visit the large boab tree, the historic old buildings full of character, the unique rustic old train lines, the golden dirt tracks, the winding road up to the lookout and even enjoy sunset overlooking the river and mangroves or shoot down on the soft sands of Settlers Beach.

Point Samson

This beautiful coastal town is full of special locations to choose from.

Honeymoon Cove features striking rock formations and the revamped pier, which is a short walk from the Cove. If you love boating, the Marina and boat ramp offer a unique backdrop.
Point Samson is a one hour drive from Karratha.
