Style Guide

My vision is to create photographic art that you feel proud to display around your home.

Therefore, it’s important to consider the outfits you and your family plan to wear during your photography experience. Selecting your outfits can feel daunting and challenging, however, it doesn’t have to be. I want you to feel comfortable and confident during your session so I have put together this booklet to help guide you. We’ll also have a chat about styling prior to your session, so you can ask questions and share your outfit ideas.

1| Choose your colour palette first

Choose a palette of 3-4 colours. Let this be your starting place. Think in terms of tones: blue tones, earth tones, neutrals, pastels, etc.

Everyone in the family can express their own sense of style within the chosen colour palette and the whole group will coordinate beautifully.

2| Coordinate & complement colour

Matching outfits (such as denim and white shirts) was once a popular choice and whilst this look still works in some settings, coordinating your outfits to be complementary rather than matching creates a relaxed feel to your images and allows for individual expression.

You want to complement each other’s outfits by choosing colours that work well together. I find that if everyone
is wearing the same colour, people will all tend to blend together and there won’t be much variety and individualism in the images.

3| Patterns & Texture

I love texture in clothing and find it can add so much to the

overall image.

When picking patterns, choose smaller ones that won’t detract from the main subjects. If multiple people are wearing patterns, ensure they work together and complement each other, rather than distract (such as stripes paired with spots).

Choose different textures that will give photos some interest such as linen, lace, corduroy, denim, and knits. Muted tones, pastels and neutrals look beautiful when mixed together in a family photo.

4| Complement the location with your style

We are spoilt for choice when it comes to locations here in the

Pilbara and each one is beautiful, unique and diverse.

You want to choose outfits that work with your location, yet allow you to pop out from the surrounding scenery.

You also want to think about your vibe. Do you want a boho vibe to your images, a casual vibe or a classic, timeless more dressed-up vibe?

5| Make up and Hair

Makeup and hair is a very personal choice. I suggest a
natural makeup look. If you are able to get your makeup done professionally, I highly recommend it. Not only does this allow for some pamper time, but professional make-up artists know how to apply make up that lasts, won’t melt off and they are skilled at highlighting all the right areas of your face, such as your eyes.

When planning your hair keep in mind things such as the wind. If you want to wear your hair down bring a brush and hair tie just in case you change your mind. I love windswept photos and will position you to cater for the breeze. Keeping it simple and classic is often best for both hair and makeup.

6| Outfit changes

I always suggest you bring along an outfit change. Not only does this create more variety, it also ensures we have a back up if an outfit gets dirty (think children and the Pilbara red dirt).

If you have older children allow them to choose something
to wear that represents who they are for their individual photos. This helps to give them autonomy and ownership and involves them in the process.

7| Client Wardrobe

I have a beautiful selection of maternity gowns for my maternity clients and a range of undergarments, accessories, headbands and flower crowns.

For newborn clients I also provide everything required for your newborn baby from wraps and throws to headbands, bonnets and props.

I also have a stunning collection of girls’ dresses ranging in size from 0 to 8 that clients are welcome to use during their photographic experience with me.

8| Accessories and things to bring

Accessories can really add to your outfits and help complete a

vision. They lend pops of colour, personality, and interest.

If you are planning a beach shoot, make sure you bring along a towel or two and a change of clothes for the drive home (if you would like to get in the water)

9| I’m here to help

You do not need to make your selections on your own. We will work together to create a photographic experience specifically catered to your family. Share your outfit ideas with me and feel free to ask any questions you may have.
